“Our family is forever grateful for the care received at McMaster Children’s Hospital.”
McMaster University Medical Centre reached a significant milestone this year opening the first Midwifery Care Unit (MCU) in Canada. This leading edge academic unit was developed in partnership with the McMaster University Midwifery Research Centre.
The MCU is a low-risk, midwife-led birthing unit located within the hospital that is separate from the labour and delivery unit. Under the care of midwives, the unit is specifically designed to support low-risk birthing care and assist with early discharge from the hospital.
With the support of many wonderful donors, including the Peters-Simmons Family, a dedicated space with specialized equipment for midwifery-led deliveries now exists to improve the birth experience for our patients as the volume of babies born at McMaster University Medical Centre continues to increase.
“Our family is forever grateful for the care received at McMaster Children’s Hospital,” shares Holly Simmons. “We wanted to pay it forward and support other families by helping purchase two affinity birthing beds for this important clinical area.”
