On Thursday August 9, celebrate Miracle Treat Day by visiting participating DQ locations in Brantford, Burlington, Caledonia, Hamilton, Simcoe, Port Dover and the Niagara Region and buying a Blizzard® Treat in support of McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Net proceeds from every Blizzard® Treat sold will be donated to McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation, a proud member of Children’s Miracle Network.
Proceeds will support patient care, research, education and redevelopment initiatives, and help fund the purchase of priority medical equipment.
Miracle Treat Day Patient Ambassador
In October 2013, 12-year-old Sarah from Stoney Creek began crying because of intense pain in her side and legs. Her parents took her to the Emergency Department at McMaster Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Sarah began treatment immediately. Though she went into remission within 30 days, she needed a feeding tube and developed blood clots, which required two needles twice a day for eight months.
On November 24, 2015, Sarah had her last dose of chemotherapy and she remains in remission to this day. Sarah is now a thriving 16 year old, thanks to the care at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
“We will always be grateful for everyone at McMaster Children’s Hospital,” says Sarah’s mother, Cathi. “The doctors and nurses are absolutely wonderful. Without them, we might not have our daughter today.”
Thankful for the care she received, Sarah was selected to represent McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation as a Patient Ambassador for the 16th annual DQ Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, August 9.
Sarah will be serving Blizzard® Treats at the 233 Dundas St. E. location in Waterdown on August 9 starting at 5:30 p.m.
