A wide range of support is available to individuals at various stages of their careers and includes scholarships, awards and bursaries for education and research initiatives. We also provide grants for items that fall outside of regular hospital budgets.

This bursary is designed to provide funding for nurse practitioners working in Oncology and Hematology at JHCC and/or for a registered nurse who is currently enrolled in a nurse practitioner educational program. The bursary is intended to enhance the ability of nurse practitioners to provide comprehensive, person-centered integrated care to individuals with cancer and their families across the care continuum. Staff supported through this bursary are expected to share their skills and learnings with their colleagues at JHCC and to make academic presentations of their work. The Dr. Stephen Buttrum Memorial Bursary for Excellence in Clinical Psychology is awarded to PhD candidates in clinical psychology, who have been accepted into the Clinical Psychology Internship Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital. This Bursary has been established in memory of the late Dr. Stephen Buttrum, a beloved psychologist and clinician at McMaster Children’s Hospital, through a generous donation to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation from the Buttrum family. There is $10,000 available to be awarded annually.
The Family Grants program offers a unique opportunity to support patient care at Hamilton Health Sciences by providing grants to employees for items that fall outside of regular hospital budgets (e.g. specialized furnishings and equipment). This program is jointly provided in partnership by Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and Hamilton Health Sciences Volunteer Association. Staff from all HHS sites and departments are eligible to apply. Most grants awarded are up to $2,000, although larger requests may be considered.
Through the generosity of our donors, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation funds capital redevelopment projects, purchase medical equipment and technology, invest in research and support public education and opportunities for professional development of our staff. As part of our commitment to education and development, the Foundation runs the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Education Grant program. This program aims to champion and advance the vision and mandate of the Juravinski Cancer Program (JCP).
The Richard and Mary Pelling Scholarship and Bursary in Psychiatry are awarded to full-time students and residents enrolled in a health discipline, studying psychiatry or psychology in the Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University. Eligible applicants must have psychiatric clinical and/or research experience in the Integrated Mental Health Program at Hamilton Health Sciences or St. Joseph’s Healthcare during the 2024 – 2025 academic year. Funds are made available through the generosity of Mr. Peter Gordon Pelling in memory of his parents, Richard and Mary Pelling. There is $5,431.09 each available for the scholarship and the bursary.
