The John Deere Foundation Of Canada Supports Tomorrow Stems From You®

Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation is grateful to the John Deere Foundation of Canada, one of the many generous organizations that has supported Tomorrow Stems From You®. In 2016, they pledged $300,000 toward the campaign to help patients with blood cancers who live throughout south-central Ontario.

As a long-standing supporter, the John Deere Foundation of Canada has contributed more than $900,000 to enhance patient care at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. Their previous gifts have supported the expansion of the Cancer Centre, the creation of the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre and the purchase of equipment for the redeveloped Intensive Care Unit.

With their support of Tomorrow Stems From You®, they are continuing a strong legacy of health care philanthropy in the region. Their gift will help enable the development of a specialized new unit and the acquisition of medical equipment to help patients across the Golden Horseshoe – patients like Frank Tousaw of Caistor Centre, who works with John Deere Canada.

In 2013, Frank was diagnosed with Double Hit Lymphoma (DHL). His treatment included chemotherapy and an autologous stem cell transplant. After spending 84 days in Juravinski, which included his stem cell transplant, Frank was discharged to continue recovery at home. Frank is now back to work full-time and his cancer is in remission.

“I’m grateful for the amazing care I received,” he says. “Now I have a hopeful tomorrow that will allow me to watch my kids make their way in the world.”

As a way of giving back to his community, Frank shared his story as a Patient Ambassador at Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation’s 2018 Donor Appreciation Event. His remarks helped to illustrate the high level of care provided at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre for blood-cancer patients like him.

As a member of the Juravinski Cancer Centre Patient and Family Advisory Council, Frank works to enhance the patient experience at Juravinski Cancer Centre and help others on their journey.

Thank you to Frank and the John Deere Foundation of Canada for their ongoing support.
