Striding for Essential Equipment

Enhanced patient care. It’s the reason why participants from around the region have laced up their running shoes in the last six years for Strides for The General. Proceeds from the annual fundraising event have enabled the Foundation to purchase more than 30 pieces of priority medical equipment, all of which directly benefit patients at Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehabilitation Centre.

Purchased equipment includes specialized MRI software, which enables better imaging of patients’ brains and spines in the Neurosciences Program. Patients in the Operating Room facing significant blood loss due to surgery or trauma may need the Rapid Infuser and Fluid Warmer, also funded through Strides. This piece of equipment provides a rapid flow of blood and I.V. fluids, while ensuring all fluids are at body temperature. The Trauma, Burn and Emergency Medicine Units have access to an Ultrasound machine, also because of Strides funding.

This is just a small sample of the essential equipment purchased thanks to Strides for The General participants and fundraisers. Another successful Strides was held on September 17 and proceeds will enable the purchase of even more equipment.
