HAMILTON, ON: On Saturday, September 16, Hamilton General Hospital Foundation and presenting sponsor Medtronic joined four remarkable Patient Ambassadors from across the region in hosting the seventh annual Strides For The General fundraising run/walk.
This year’s Strides, which took place at Hamilton’s Bayfront Park, raised more than $200,000 in gross revenue for Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehabilitation Centre, exceeding the $150,000 goal. Since 2011, the event has enabled the purchase of nearly 40 pieces of life-saving medical equipment.
More than 700 participants comprised of patients, hospital teams and community members were united, all with the common goal of transforming health care for the region served by Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehabilitation Centre. The support from everyone involved contributed to this year’s success.
Those in attendance were moved by the words of the event’s four Patient Ambassadors: Joey Hackett from Hamilton, Dave Velanoff from Waterloo, Gerry Everett from Ridgeway and Bob Nedelko from Vineland. The Ambassadors shared their remarkable stories of survival and thanked the hospital staff for saving their lives. The Ambassadors are alive today because of the talented teams at Hamilton General Hospital – their appreciation was an inspiration for all.
“I’m so grateful for the care I received at Hamilton General Hospital,” said Patient Ambassador Dave Velanoff as he addressed the crowd. “I am here today speaking to you all thanks to this amazing hospital.”
All proceeds from Strides For The General will support enhanced patient care at Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehabilitation Centre by funding priority medical equipment and educational initiatives.
