HAMILTON, ON – April 27, 2020: The Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Family Foundation will match all donations up to $100,000 in support of Hamilton General Hospital Foundation’s COVID-19 response. Donations can be made at hamiltonhealth.ca/covidmatch.

Donations will be doubled to help ensure that the frontline teams have the tools and resources they need to serve patients and families who rely on Hamilton General Hospital during the COVID-19 crisis, such as cardiac monitors and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“We will get through this crisis together thanks to the support of our donor community,” says Pearl Veenema, Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. “We thank The Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Family Foundation for their tremendous generosity and for helping to equip the clinical teams at Hamilton General Hospital with urgently needed equipment and amenities.”

Gulshan and Pyarali Nanji initiated this gift match in recognition of the tremendous work of their friend Dr. Ally Prebtani and his colleagues at Hamilton General Hospital.

“During this unprecedented time, we can use all the help we can get to protect and look after our patients, our health care workers and the community,” says Dr. Ally Prebtani, an Endocrinologist at Hamilton General Hospital. “This extraordinary gift match will play a major role in our ability to achieve this goal and beat this virus. My colleagues will attest that this gift has touched all our hearts, and we are ever so grateful for this kind and generous family who have shared much with humanity across the world.”

The Nanjis were exiled from Uganda in 1972 and arrived in Montreal as refugees. Thankful for the freedom and safety they experienced in Canada, the family pledged to give back to their new home country if they ever became successful. Pyarali Nanji is currently the president of Belle-Pak Packaging Inc. and one of Canada’s most well-known immigrant philanthropists.

“We are committed to giving back to the community as an expression of our gratitude to this wonderful country,” says Pyarali. “This gift is a symbol of our profound appreciation to the health care teams for their dedication during this crisis.”

Hamilton General Hospital Foundation thanks The Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Family Foundation for their vital support.
