The weekend featured two major events: the seventh annual MacKids Walk & Wheel, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Burlington, and the sixth annual Miracle Plane Pull.

After walking or riding at the superhero-themed MacKids Walk & Wheel, registrants enjoyed free access to MiracleFest, which included lunch, the popular Teddy Bear Hospital sponsored by RBC, inflatable bouncers and many more family-friendly events. At Miracle Plane Pull, 25 teams tested their strength by pulling a 125,000 lb. Boeing 727 for 25 feet.

This year’s event featured three Superhero Ambassadors, each with remarkable stories about how McMaster Children’s Hospital has impacted their lives:

  • Six-year-old Superhero Gabriel from Stoney Creek was diagnosed with leukemia. While Gabriel continues to receive chemotherapy to prevent a relapse, he is currently in remission.
  • Five-year-old Superhero Olive from St. David’s had a cancerous tumour the size of a baseball growing in her brain. Thanks to two surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Olive is alive and cancer free.
  • Eight-year-old Ozzie from Waterdown has cerebral palsy. He receives ongoing physiotherapy through the Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Program at Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre to help him reach his full potential.

With more than 1,400 participants, the two events combined raised more than $235,000, with donations still being collected. Funds raised from Miracle Weekend will support the purchase of highest priority needs at McMaster Children’s Hospital, including Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre.

“Our many community partners play an important role in making Miracle Weekend an enormous success each year,” says Pearl Veenema, President and CEO, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. “All of our partners go above and beyond to ensure that patients across Hamilton Health Sciences can receive exceptional health care.”

On behalf of the patients and their families, McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation thanks everyone for supporting its goal of Health Care, Transformed for the children and youth of the region who rely on McMaster Children’s Hospital and for making Miracle Weekend a tremendous success.
