Making a real difference in other people’s lives. That is what motivates and excites Dr. Holger “Hal” Hirte every day. As a medical oncologist and researcher at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre for nearly 30 years, his dedication to the care of patients and families in need continues to grow.
“The most gratifying part of my work is seeing patients have positive outcomes so they can return to their normal lives and do the things they love to do,” says Dr. Hirte. “When putting together my will, I realized that I could also help patients and families by leaving a legacy gift to the Foundation.”
After working at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre for such an extended period, it felt like a natural next step to support excellence in patient care for upcoming generations.
“Leaving my legacy gift will enhance the care of patients in Hamilton and throughout south-central Ontario beyond my own lifetime. I wanted to lead by example and encourage donors, patients and colleagues to consider giving back with a legacy gift.”

Dr. Hirte is also excited about how his gift can be used to further important medical research and clinical trials, which are vital to establishing new standards of care for the treatment of cancer patients.
“By making a legacy gift, you are helping to ensure that Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre offers excellence in cancer care into the future. You are helping to make a great place even better for years to come.”
