As equipment is not funded by the government, your support can help fund the acquisition of essential equipment to ensure that patients are given the best care when they need it most.
Hybrid Operating Suite – $3 million
At a cost of $3 million, the Hybrid Operating Suite will be a room that combines imaging technology and surgical equipment, allowing a multidisciplinary team of experts to perform both “minimally invasive” procedures guided by real-time images, as well as more traditional open surgeries, all in one convenient location.

Emergency Department Redevelopment: Multi-Year Campaign
Our goal in 2016 is to aid in the redevelopment of the Emergency Department. Hamilton General Hospital is the regional leader in cardiac care and neurosciences, in addition to burn, stroke and trauma care. This makes the Emergency Department one of the busiest areas of the hospital and as such, The General requires the appropriate resources and space to continue providing state-of-the-art care.
Patients arriving at The General are increasingly acute in their needs and come from throughout the Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand and Brant regions. More than 45,000 patients are seen in the Emergency Department annually, with an expected continued growth of 5 to 10 per cent each year over the next five years. The current Emergency Department is not designed nor equipped to handle this growth.
This is a multi-year campaign and your support will help ensure that the medical specialists have the best space to diagnose and treat patients at a vulnerable time.
Essential Equipment for Specialty Acute and Rehabilitation Services
Due to patient volumes and program intensity, clinical programs need to continuously replenish important equipment. Equipment can range from items that directly assist patient ambulatory needs to sophisticated surgical tools and monitoring devices. These items can be wheelchairs, cardiac monitors, and anesthetic accudose cabinets for the operating rooms, or more complex equipment such as a patient cooling system for neurosurgery, an augmentative and alternative communication system for the ICU, and a video tower for Cardiac TAVI procedures.
The Regional Rehabilitation Centre equipment needs include a Motomed (wheelchair-based motion trainer); Leg FES (muscle stimulator for legs); easy stand glider; gait and balance training systems; and vital signs monitors. All equipment is supportive of high quality care and improves the patient experience.
