Enabling Dreams Campaign Celebration and the Opening of Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre

Thank you for enabling such an amazing day. During yesterday’s official opening of Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre, Mr. Ron Joyce doubled his initial $5-million gift to McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation. The initial gift enabled the completion of the Enabling Dreams campaign and the purchase of essential critical equipment for the Main Street location of McMaster Children’s Hospital.

In acknowledging the second gift, Pearl Veenema, President and CEO, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation indicated that “Mr. Joyce is truly a remarkable individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of commitment to children and youth; and community. We are most grateful for his tremendous generosity. In addition to ensuring the completion of the Enabling Dreams campaign for the new Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre, the additional gift will allow us to advance planning for emerging equipment and redevelopment priorities at McMaster Children’s Hospital.”

Mr. Joyce has a long history of support for McMaster Children’s Hospital and in advising of the additional gift, he indicated that he was “inspired by the courage and resilience of the children, youth and families that I have come to know and learn about through my long association with the hospital and foundation”.

Rob MacIsaac, President and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences, reflected on his long standing relationship with Mr. Joyce as he indicated that “Mr. Joyce has had a lasting impact of the fabric of this country, and through his philanthropy has directly impacted the lives of thousands throughout our region. This gift is a remarkable acknowledgement of his strong commitment to children and youth, and we are truly grateful.”

Chair of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation Board, George McCarter acknowledged “the tremendous generosity of Ron Joyce and The Joyce Foundation in making this additional gift to McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation is a true legacy to the health care for the children and youth of south central Ontario. We are incredibly honoured and grateful to Mr. Joyce for this wonderful gift.”

This additional gift added to the tremendous excitement that has been building since November 1, when The Foundation was able to host an early celebration at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre with our donors, patients, families and friends. The first tours of this wonderful new Centre provided The Foundation with an opportunity to thank the generous donors for their heartwarming support enabling the dreams for thousands of children and their families who will receive care at the Centre.

In addition to unveiling the donor wall and donor plaques throughout the building, more than 40 works of art and 4-storey art installation in the atrium were showcased. Each of which will contribute so much to the health and well-being of patients, families and staff at the Centre.

The magic of the Centre was also brought to life with Harry Potter-themed activities. Guests were able to enjoy a number of wizarding-themed stations and fun events. Guests of all ages enjoyed being a kid for the afternoon.

With thanks to all donors to the Enabling Dreams campaign, we exceeded our $6.5-million campaign goal to secure all of the furnishings and equipment needs across our four programs. Special thanks to Ronald V. Joyce and The Joyce Foundation, Chedoke Health Foundation, ArcelorMittal Dofasco and Hamilton District Society for Disabled Children, who were transformational donors in making Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre a reality. And an extra-special thank you to Ron Joyce and The Joyce Foundation for this truly remarkable additional gift.

We are pleased to share the campaign video and photos from the donor celebration and the official opening.
