b.r.a.i.n.child at McMaster Children’s Hospital

b.r.a.i.n.child is a group of parents, families and friends who have the common experience of caring for a child with a brain tumour. We are a volunteer organization providing support and education.

b_r_a_i_n_child LogoIt is difficult to conceive of anything more distressing for a parent than a diagnosis of a brain tumour in one’s child.  Through it you enter into a period of dread and hope.  We know.  It is the common experience of the members of b.r.a.i.n.child.  We are parents who have seen our children come through the difficult process of treatment – many with success, but sadly some to failure.

Our mission is threefold: support families from diagnosis through treatment and beyond; public education and advocacy, as well as fundraising for research into paediatric brain tumours.

We hold monthly meetings at Wellwood every third Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm.  (Wellwood is a cancer support centre located at 501 Sanitorium Road in Hamilton.)

Community support from individuals, associations, businesses and service clubs for our efforts to ease the burden of families with a child in treatment, educate the public and further research is greatly appreciated.

Our McMaster Children’s Hospital liaison is Cindy van Halderen, Social Worker, Paediatric Oncology Program.  She can be reached at 905 521-2100, ext. 73596 or e-mail us at brainchildhamilton@live.ca.

Have courage, stay strong for your child and know that you are not alone!
